Multiple achievements by the University of St. Gallen at the Willem C. Vis Moot in Vienna, April 2022
The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court is an international legal competition where a fictional commercial dispute is simulated before an arbitral tribunal. In this year’s rendition, 365 teams from across the world took part. After a number of successful Pre-Moots throughout the spring, the team of the University of St. Gallen, as the only Swiss university, managed to once more proceed to the Round of Best 16. In addition, the team also secured an Honorable Mention for the Memorandum for Respondent while Damian Wyss (MLaw) was also recognized as among the best individual oralists. The team thereby continues a legacy of success at the Willem C. Vis Moot.

2nd place for Swiss Moot Court
We are proud to announce that a team of the Law & Economics students Luzia Bremi, Danielle Hefti, Philipp Kessler und Raphael Wüthrich represented the University of St. Gallen at this year’s edition of the Swiss Moot Court and made 2nd place. At this year’s edition of the Swiss Moot Court, the participants had to solve a complex inheritance law case. With their written papers submitted in November, the team of the University of St. Gallen qualified for the oral round in mid-February, where the 12 best teams from all over Switzerland were allowed to plead against each other. Due to their their outstanding pleading performance in German and French they then succeeded to get into the finals, where they came in 2nd place. We congratulate the team for their great performance.

Successful participation at the International Moot Court in International Criminal Law 2021
This spring 2021, a team from the HSG again successfully participated at the "International Criminal Court Moot Court". The ICC Moot Court is an international student competition in international criminal law organised by the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands, in which a fictitious case before the International Criminal Court in The Hague has to be dealt with in various roles (prosecution, defence, government) in briefs and oral pleadings. The team, which included students Chiara Iten, Martin Bader, Basil Schaller, Kevin Caratsch and Jael Steiger, was supervised by the Chair of International and European Law (Prof. Fassbender); This year's Moot Court assistant was Isabel Wolf. Out of a total of 95 participating teams from all over the world, the HSG team reached 28th place, unfortunately missing out on the quarter-finals of the competition by just one place. New President of the Swiss Lawyers Association

Prof. Dr Benjamin Schindler was elected to the President of Swiss Lawyers Association at the General Assembly on 3 September 2021.

New Adjunct Professor
PD Dr. Daniel Häusermann has been appointed Adjunct Professor of Private Law and Business Law as of 1 August 2021.

Stefano Rodotà Award 2021
The Winner of the Stefano Rodotà Award 2021 is Gabriel Kasper for his work on "People analytics in private-law employment relationships - Proposals for a more effective enforcement of data protection law". Our sincere congratulations go to Gabriel Kasper but also to his doctoral supervisor Isabelle Wildhaber, FAA-HSG.

Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court
The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court is a contest where a fictional commercial dispute is heard by an arbitral tribunal. It represents the largest international legal competition with over 390 participating universities. After the final oral rounds in Vienna had to be cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic, this year's competition was conducted virtually. In the 27th edition of the Vis Moot Court, the team from the University of St.Gallen was able to advance to the round of the best 16 teams out of 240 participating universities. This is not only the best performance among the Swiss teams, but also a new record for the University of St.Gallen.

The Law School congratulates the team on this achievement despite the unusual conditions.

New law journal "ex ante"
Assistants at the Law School published the first edition of the journal "ex ante" in July 2016. This journal for young legal academics in Switzerland is successor to the "Schriftenreihe der Assistierenden der Universität St.Gallen", which celebrated its ten-year anniversary in 2015. "ex ante" is a platform for young legal academics to publish their research findings, ideas and interests. The journal will carry on the traditions of the original series of publications.
